Chelsea Novotny is an artist and educator based out of Minneapolis, MN. Her art focuses on collecting and experimenting with pressed plant material to create rhythmic textures within drawing, painting, and collage. She examines the imprint that nature has on us through our experiences with it.
Art is interconnected with life, movement, and nature. Art fosters a connection to ourselves and is connected to the outer world. Our bodies move when we create art, creating a mind body connection that engages us into the present moment. Observing nature can create a deeper connection with the world. Chelsea creates a space for students to explore these connections. All students are welcome and accepted within her classroom. As an educator her goal is to empower and uplift every student no matter their background, culture, race, identity, or ability. Chelsea views all of her students through an asset based lens. An asset based lens acknowledges the strengths that each student brings to the classroom and creates an environment that fosters those strengths. The various organizations that she has worked with include Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Minneapolis Institute of Art, CommonBond Communities, Eagan Art House, Silverwood Park, Merrick Inc. Adult Day Services, Simpson Housing Services, and with several schools and artists across the Twin Cities. Chelsea loves creating empowering and uplifting experiences for everyone. |
